Two teachers and 68 students get caught up in the flood water of a nala passing beside the school building at Bhangrotu in Balh Valley of District Mandi. The students and teacher were rescued by the efforts of local residents after an hour of the incident.
In Govt. Primary School Bhangrotu and day care centre Teachers and students were indulged in their regular pursuits and activities in the school premises. At about 1.00 P.M. they found water lapping around the building in which Government Primary School and center for mentally retarded children being run by the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan is situated .
Finding themselves and students in crises the teachers Sheetal Sharma and lalita Sharma started effort to rescue out of the flood water with the help of Block Resource Co-coordinator Purn Chand Saini, local resident and police. After an hour of the incident all the 68 students were safely brought out from the flooded area.
It was horrible time for the students, teachers, parents and rescuers as the water of Nala suddenly increased in the unprecedented manner and surrounded the premises up to two feet. The weather was quite clear at that time in Bhangrotu. But due to heavy rains in the higher hills the nala got flood water.
The local resident Ghanshyam says he never seen such flood in this particular nala. The police of Police Station Balh also reached to the spot. The parents of the students and local residents demanded that a big wall be erected around the premises so that safety of the students can be ensured in future.
