District Police in compliance to the order of Himachal Pradesh High Court have taken 5 mentally ill persons in their safe custody.
All of them will be taken up under proper care to Shimla to be kept at observation board of Department of Psychiatry at Indira Gandhi Medical College or any other suitable place for four days.
Head of the Department concerned after examining the persons will issue the certificate to them under Mental Health Act and thereafter all of them would be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court No.1 at Mandi for the further action.
High Court Finding failure of state machinery to help the mentally unbalanced persons have directed government through Deputy Commissioner and SPs of four Districts- Mandi, Shimla, Kullu and Chamba to take these maniac persons into protection.
As per the directions of SP Mandi the police have located these persons from different parts of the Mandi town- Bus Stand, Seri Bazar and roaming in the Indira Market area.
Two of them Nanki Devi and Mahamesh are residents of nearby villages but others are still unidentified. The woman Nanki Devi is having a son of 7 years who is not suffering from any insanity but he remains with her all the times.
The SP Mandi P D Parsad said that in compliance to High Court orders police is checking out the mentally disabled persons staying in public places so that effective steps can be taken for their treatment etc.
The Chief Medical Officer Mandi, Ajay Bhanu Gupta admitted that after finding psychiatric disorder in these persons he has referred them to be examined from the competent authority.
